About The Position

At Orca AI, we're on a mission to shape the future of the shipping industry through cutting-edge autonomous ship technology. Our solutions empower teams both on the ship and ashore to make informed decisions that dramatically enhance safety, reduce fuel consumption, improve navigation, and minimize environmental impact.

We integrate state-of-the-art technologies like computer vision and augmented reality, ensuring that we create solutions that improve operational efficiency and promote safer, greener shipping practices. At Orca AI, we are committed to making a positive difference for both the environment and the people who rely on safe, efficient shipping practices. Join us as we work towards a safer, greener future for the maritime industry.

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Senior Data Scientist to join our expanding data group. You will work directly with our team of data scientists and analysts, leading the research and development of innovative analytics products. We’re seeking someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves, dive into the data, and deliver impactful solutions.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced analytics leader with a strong hands-on approach. You should be passionate about data and possess a deep understanding of machine learning, statistics, and data science principles. You will thrive in our dynamic environment, taking ownership of driving analytics for our new line of data products and demonstrating a "get-things-done" mentality.

Responsibilities:

  • Leverage a creative blend of AI techniques, machine learning algorithms, statistical analysis, and business intelligence to build and refine predictive models focused on tabular data. This includes structured datasets such as customer records, transactional data, time-series, and operational logs.
  • Drive end-to-end data science workflows for tabular data prediction use cases — from initial problem scoping and feature engineering to model development, validation, and deployment.
  • Collaborate closely with dedicated development and product teams to ensure seamless integration and high-quality data science solutions.
  • Build and continuously optimize scalable ML pipelines and infrastructure specifically tailored for structured data and predictive modeling tasks.
  • Take initiative in identifying delivery bottlenecks, implement effective monitoring and model performance tracking for tabular predictions, and own the success of data-driven product features from inception through deployment.

Requirements

  • M.Sc./PhD in a relevant field with strong quantitative skills.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Scientist in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a deep understanding of data limitations, sampling, frequency, manipulation, and cleaning techniques.
  • 3+ years of practical experience with the Python data science toolbox
  • Experience working with large datasets and familiarity with the Big Data ecosystem
  • Proven track record of delivering data-driven solutions achieving measurable outputs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Self-starter with a "get-things-done" attitude and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Continuous learner who is passionate about staying up-to-date with the latest data science trends and technologies.

Additional Nice to Have:

  • Strong data visualization and presentation skills.
  • Experience working in cloud-based environments.
  • Maritime background and passion
